Alek Bryce Dunning, age 26, died on Thursday, August 24, 2017. He was born on October 12, 1990 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was a longtime resident in the Lake Country area of the state where he enjoyed his many outdoor hobbies and adventures. He is survived by his father, Keith Bryce Dunning of Sullivan, Wisconsin, and mother, Gretchen Clare Schaefer of Alexandria, Virginia; loving grandparents Carolann Aiken of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Wendelin Schaefer of Incline Village, Nevada and Janice E. Schaefer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. Alek graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 2009 and spent a portion of his high school years as a cadet at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin where he was on the school football team. He was completing his welding certification at Waukesha County Technical College at the time of his death. His natural welding talents are evident in the works of art he produced during this time. Alek had a strong passion for the great outdoors in and around the many beautiful lakes near his home where he enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, jet skiing, hunting and snowmobiling in the open fields and trails throughout the area. He loved the many dogs he helped raise throughout his precious life and now joins his first, Angel, in heaven. His family, and many friends and their families will remember Alek for his kind heart, quiet wit, beautiful smile and infectious laughter. He will be deeply missed. A funeral service will be held at Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 1165 E. Summit Avenue, Oconomowoc, WI 53066 on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. A gathering will precede the service from 5-7 pm where the family will greet relatives and friends.
