Andrew Smith, 72, passed away suddenly on July 22, 2023. Andrew was born on June 10, 1951, in Wabash, IN to Richard and Georgia Sue (nee Cowen).
Andrew is survived by his wife Lynn (nee McCormick), his children Matt (Alysia) Smith, Jennifer (Tom) Tschida, Anthony Smith and Liz Smith, grandchildren Sarah, Meghan, Wyatt, Andy, Charlie, Henry, and Emmett. He is further survived by sisters Georgiana (Tom) Felix, Carol (Jim) Carter, Monica (Dan) Cook, Becky Zimmer, and Sarah (Joe) Roecklein, along with many nieces and nephews.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Susan Miller.
He attended Marquette University High School and UW-Milwaukee. He worked at Aldrich Chemical Company in Milwaukee for 45 years starting in maintenance and working up to Systems Analyst.
Andrew married Lynn in 1972, celebrating their 50th anniversary last year. She was the love of his life, his perfect match, and Irish too.
Andrew was a dedicated member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Sherman Park for 46 years. He served many roles with St. Kate’s, his favorites being Pancake Breakfast, the Parish Picnic, St. Vincent de Paul and Ushering. For years he was also the “gym guy,” the one letting everyone in, coordinating the refs, and selling the snacks.
He loved watching his children’s sporting events and, more recently, his grandchildren’s. Andrew was an avid baseball card collector—a passion he shared with his son Anthony. He enjoyed science fiction books, cheese singles, PBS mysteries, attending Irish Fest, and eating out with his wife. He was never seen without a Diet Coke in his hand or an athletic hat on his
head.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Marquette University High School, the food pantry at St. Catherine Church, or in his name to a favorite charity.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. Catherine Church (5101 W Center St, Milwaukee, WI 53210) from 10 a.m. to noon with a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. A celebration of his life will follow in the community room.
