Bernie peacefully passed away on June 13, 2016 at home with family members. He was born into this world to Bert and Maggie Schultz on April 6, 1930 in Carrolton, Michigan, the third of five boys: James (Colleen), Ted (June), Jerry (Roberta) and Bob (Pat). He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sheila. They were blessed with 7 children: Bernard Jr. (Penny), Rebecca (Bill) Kubehl, Paul, Elizabeth (Deceased 1980), Laura (John) Falk, Gary (Carol), Eileen; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Bernie graduated from St. Andrews High School in Saginaw, MI. He served in both the US Navy and Army. He then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, earning a civil engineering degree. Bernie worked for National Survey Service in Milwaukee, the Department of Natural Resources, and as the city Engineer of Oconomowoc, retiring in 1995. Bernie enjoyed the time he spent with his family. He was a long time troop leader for the Boy Scouts, enjoyed following the Packers and Brewers, and was a member of Kiwanis. The Catholic Church was an important part of his daily life. He made his own wine and raised bees for a number of years. Growing up in Michigan, he was very involved in sports such as football and baseball. There will be a wake at Pagenkopf Funeral Home (1165 E Summit Ave, Oconomowoc, WI) on Monday June 20, 2016 from 5-7 PM with a Prayer service at 6 PM. A visitation will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church (226 Ottawa Ave, Dousman, WI) at 9 AM with a Funeral Mass at 10 AM, on Tuesday June 21, 2016. Burial services at St Jerome Catholic Cemetery in Oconomowoc will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, donations to local food pantries would be appreciated. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Debbie and Angie of Visiting Angels for the care they provided.
