Brian Bernard Cullen
December 1, 1953-March 11, 2025

Brian is survived by the long-time love of his life, Kay Hultstrand Cullen, whom he met in 1974 while on a European semester abroad; and by their beloved three daughters - Kïrsten (Jeremy) Hett, Alissa (Chris) Kane, and Natalie (Tyler) Laidig. His ten grandchildren adored him - Sam, Sawyer, Griffin, and Aria Hett; Emerson, Benaiah, and Hannah Kane; and Clive, Cullen, Haven (and soon-to-be-born baby boy) Laidig. He is the son of the late James and Nancy (Fitzgerald) Cullen; baby brother to the late Nancy Jean (John) Blasi, survived by James Jr. (Linda) Cullen, Sheila (the late Lee) Elberts, and Janet (John) Abowd. He was the most fun uncle to 16 nieces and nephews which extended to their spouses and children as well. His many cousins and large extended family were playmates and dear friends throughout the years.

Brian had fond memories growing up in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Niles, IL and went on to earn his Bachelors degree from Marquette University. After graduating he took a job in the insurance industry and began his career. Most recently, Brian was working as VP of Human Resources at USA Fire Protection. He kept pushing off his official, real retirement because he truly loved working. However, he lived his life to the fullest, with adventure and fun. He was his kids’ and grandkids’ biggest fan.

He was a lifelong athlete, walking on to the Marquette University basketball freshman team. He also enjoyed playing tennis, golf, volleyball, and all kinds of skiing, boating, hiking, and biking. Brian was a deeply rooted Christian who was very involved in his church and led Bible studies. He was generous, a deep thinker, interested in leadership development, and so much fun. He loved to travel, loved music concerts, chocolate, and people. He was a dear friend and mentor to many. Like his mother, Brian never met a stranger. Once you met, you were a friend.

Everyone is heartbroken at this sudden loss but know he is in the arms of his Savior, which is a great comfort in the midst of terrible pain.
