Britton J. Buchanan

Britton John Buchanan “Red”, 78 of Oconomowoc, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Britt was born January 19, 1936 in Jackson, WI, son of Raymond Brittian and Nettie Bertha (nee Haselbarth) Buchanan. He graduated from West Division High School in Milwaukee, WI and immediately upon graduation enlisted in the US Army. After release from active service Britt spent an additional twenty plus years in the Army Reserves. He was extremely proud of his Army and Reserve service. He was employed by Western Electric/AT&T and retired after 32 years of service. On September 12, 1959 at Siloah Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI he married the former Joanne L. Galler. He is survived by his wife Joanne and children; Christi-Jo Marie Buchanan of Dousman, Kimberli Kaye Buchanan and Andrew Charles (Beth) Buchanan of of Ixonia, grandchildren Ashley Marie (Ben) Hilmer, Paige Marie Buchanan, Shelby Ann Buchanan, Jacob Andrew Buchanan, Abigail Lynn Buchanan and great-grandchildren Caleb Hilmer and Domonick Hilmer. Britt is also survived by his sister Kaye Rita (George) Espantman of Belgium, WI along with nieces, cousins, friends and his special cat “Chessie”. Britt enjoyed reading, especially military history, researching family genealogy and traveling. He and Joanne visited 42 of the United States along with many foreign countries. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91 in Oconomowoc and donated many hours to the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society. A celebration of Britt’s life will be held at Pagenkopf Funeral Home in Oconomowoc on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 12:00 PM followed by military honors. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society, 312 E. Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to the AngelsGrace Hospice bear program in Oconomowoc.
