Catherine Byron Eareckson-Macnally

Catherine Byron Eareckson-MacNally, of Oconomowoc, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her husband of nearly 28 years, Richard (Dick), of Oconomowoc, Laura (Rick) Landers of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Cousins Jim, Bob, Sue, Jean and many loving friends and colleagues. Cathy was born in Stuttgart, Germany on October 8th, 1950, the only child of Raymond and Frances Eareckson. She is preceded in death by her parents and step mother, Dorothea. On September 24, 1988, she married her beloved Richard (Dick) MacNally in Minneapolis, Minnesota and subsequently moved to Oconomowoc, where they have lived for many years. They were a perfect fit. Prior to her retirement in 2010 Cathy dedicated her entire career to helping children and young adults with severe developmental and behavioral disabilities reach for and embrace their full potentials. She dedicated her career to working with children and families in their homes, and later in field of residential treatment. Cathy had a very strong work ethic and was a respected mentor and supervisor for many social workers. She had a talent for identifying people's strengths and helping them find their own voices. Cathy loved her life. She loved her husband, her family and her friends. She enjoyed meeting new people and was always interested to hear their stories. She was funny and smart, equally entertained by the goofy as well as by discussions about quantum physics. Those of us who knew her well are hard-put to come up with an encompassing description of all the things Cathy was to us – where to begin? Where to end? All we can say for sure is we were all blessed to know this remarkable individual; she made our lives better, and we are grateful forever to have been part of her world. “Cathy - your work here is done.” We love you.
