Catherine H. Myers

Myers, Catherine Anne Catherine Anne Myers (ne Huber) passed away peacefully on February 20, 2014, at the age of 80 with her family by her side following a sudden and short battle with cancer. Cathy was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Pulaski High School where she was the proud recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. She met her husband, Jack, in 1952 while singing at a USO dance in Milwaukee. They were married on May 5, 1956. She studied voice at Alverno College and sang in the Florentine Opera Chorus, was a soloist with the Bel Canto Choir, sang with the Sweet Adelines International Barbershop Group and later sang in the St. Catherine’s and Holy Name of Jesus Parish choirs. Cathy was an accomplished seamstress and a talented graphite and watercolor artist. A longtime member of St. Catherine’s Parish Council, she also served as a Eucharistic minister in her parishes. Cathy was a Lay Chaplain for Pro Health, and also served as a volunteer at Home and Angel’s Grace Hospices for more than 20 years. She had an outstanding rapport and connected well with the patients she served. She enjoyed the company of the many friends she met as a participant in the local Knitwits knitting group and as one of Dorothy Smith’s painting students. Some of her greatest joys were taking trips with individual grandchildren and Elder Hostel trips. Cathy and Jack cherished the time spent together with family and close friends over the years. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Huber (ne Szymanski). She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John “Jack” Myers, and by her children: Tom (Kathy) of Wauwatosa, Judy (Mark) Emmrich of McFarland, Jeanette (Mike) Heitman of Lake Mills, Jim (Rose Bie) of Alameda, CA, Peg (Tom) Hassel of Lawrenceville, GA, Lisa (Jason) Bock of Shakopee, MN and 16 grandchildren. She is further survived by siblings Mary (John) Englhardt of Aiken, SC and Paul (Carole) Huber of Grafton. The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. David Faust, DO, Dr. Gilberto Rodrigues, MD and Dr. Atallah, MD, their staffs, and the caring nursing staff at the Aurora Medical Center in Summit. Friends are invited to join the family at Holy Name of Jesus Parish (in the Zion Lutheran Church building, N557 Main Street, Ashippun, WI 53003) on Monday, February 24th from 10-11am, before an 11am mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1003 Clay Street Watertown, WI 53098; Angel’s Grace Hospice, W359N 7430 Brown Street, Oconomowoc, WI 53066; or Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.
