Charles (Chuck) Hocking, age97, of Dousman, WI, passed away on February 29, 2024. Chuck was born the son of Sarah and Less Hocking on January 8, 1927.
He received both his BS & MS degrees from Stout Institute in Menomonee, Wisconsin. He taught Industrial Arts in New Richmond, WI, prior to coming to Oconomowoc in 1952, where he also taught Industrial Arts until he became Director of Instructional Media. In addition, Chuck taught the Media program at UW-Whitewater for seven summers. He served two years in the Navy stationed on Palawan Island in the Philippines.
Chuck enjoyed his educational career very much, working with students and his fellow colleagues. He truly appreciated every moment of his retirement years where he enjoyed traveling and volunteering with his many friends in the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In the Auxiliary, he was on the art committee, did photography, and worked with all of the artwork within the hospital. His other passion was building and flying radio controlled model airplanes. Chuck belonged to two radio controlled clubs, and was active in both where he served as both President and Secretary.
He was a former member of the American Legion Post, Kiwanis, JC’s, and an original member of the Oconomowoc Cable Committee. In later years, he and Gerrie moved to Three Pillars in Dousman, WI. There, they both made many new friends and enjoyed a very relaxed, enjoyable life.
Chuck is preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Gerrie; his parents, Sarah and Less Hocking; brothers, Jim Hocking and Allen Hocking; and sister, Dora Garvin. He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Hocking.
