Charles Hollis

We celebrate the life of Charles Ralph Hollis, (Chuck). Chuck died in his home on October 5, 2010, surrounded by his loving wife Maggie (Susan Heydt Hollis), his 3 daughters Megan Hollis Clough (Scott Clough), Melissa Hollis Polly (T. Scott Polly), Amanda Hollis Yeast (Joel Yeast) and his sister Linnea Hollis Frey (Columbia MO), and brothers Warren Rex Hollis (Beth Martin Hollis, Hudson, OH) and Stephen Raymond Hollis (Nancy O’riti, Whyte, Hollis, DeForest, WI). He was the first of four children born to Lorraine Broome and Charles Rex Hollis in Chagrin Falls, Ohio on July 15, 1945. Chuck loved growing up in the Western Reserve, with all of its parks and opportunities. He graduated from Chagrin Falls High School in 1963, a member of the National Honor Society. He played basketball at Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio, where he made fast friends (brothers) in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1967 and began his business career at Reliance Electric Company where he was trained in sales as well. From there he went to WER Industrial (Grand Island, NY), The Graham Company (Menomonee Falls, WI), Vadetec (Detroit, MI), Contraves (Pittsburg, PA), Creonics (Hanover, NH), and ABB Industrial (Orange, CT and New Berlin, WI). The people he met and worked with in his career were his friends. As sales manager he was a terrific “go-to” person, took the time to listen and was honest and true to his job. Chuck retired in December of 2009. He and Maggie spent their time between their homes in Nashotah, WI and Stockton Springs, ME near their two beautiful grandchildren (Tate Clough 7, and Sophie Clough 3). He was so proud of his 3 beautiful daughters and their families and often marveled at their accomplishments. He never realized that the women they became are a direct result of the man he was. As a member of First Congregational UCC Oconomowoc Chuck served on many ministries, started the annual Craftfest Car Show, helped serve at Community Meals, Habitat for Humanity, transporting members to church, being liturgist or usher, singing in the Praise Choir and helping in anything else that was asked of him. He loved classic convertible sport cars, American cruise cars, NASCAR, and everything there was to know about WWII. Chuck and Maggie belonged to the local Triumph and MG3 sports car clubs and to the Rolls Royce Club. Special trips, outings and shows with them, boating on the lake, and traveling nationally and internationally filled his free time. He cared about everyone he met. Although his spirit remains, we will miss his presence. His memory ‘lives strong’ in our hearts. A memorial service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church in Oconomowoc on Saturday, October 9, at 4 o’clock p.m. Please join us afterwards for a meal and fellowship.
