OCONOMOWOC - Dale A. Hight, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3rd. He was born April 27th, 1924 in Elmwood, WI to Allen and Nellie Hight. He grew up in Elmwood roaming the hills and fishing the streams. He met the love of his life, Louise Gehrke, in Menomonie, WI. They were married on June 8th, 1947. Dale served honorably in the U.S. Army, driving a jeep all over Europe during WWII. Upon his return he entered college at Eau Claire and graduated with a degree in Education. Later he obtained his Master's Degree from U.W.- Madison. He began his teaching career in Delafield and later became principal there. He became principal of Woodside school in Brookfield and eventually Assistant Superintendent of Elmbrook Schools. He retired to Oconomowoc with Louise, spending time raising and selling mums at his HWY 67 home. Dale enjoyed life for almost 96 years. He loved life. He loved his family and friends. He adored his great-grandchildren. God took him home and he is now dancing in heaven with his beloved Louise. Survivors include his daughter, Susan (Curtis) Grendahl; his brother, Eldon P. Hight of Chetek; grandchildren, Nathan (Kimberly) Grendahl, Joshua (Vanessa) Grendahl, Dan (Rosie) Hight, Allie (Adam) Lipski; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Bohdi, Niko, A.J., Archer, Coralie, and one little girl to come in July; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his son, Timothy; and extended family members, Frank and Jean Shadewald, Paul and Betty Gehrke, Tess Hight, Patty Gilberts, and Robert Gehrke. A Celebration of Dale's Life will be held Friday, April 10th at 10:30 am at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1600 N Genesee St, Delafield, WI 53018 with Pastor James Holmberg presiding. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9th from 4 - 6 pm, at Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 1165 E. Summit Ave., Oconomowoc, WI 53066. Burial will follow the funeral service at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors accorded. A live stream of Dale's Service will be available on Facebook Live. Memorial donations to Oconomowoc Area Baseball Club in Dale's name would be appreciated. Joshua 24:15 However, due to the COVID-19 virus and with respect of the rules put in place regarding social distancing the funeral home is requesting the visitation be limited to close family and friends, which will rotate through in small groups. In lieu of current restrictions Funeral Service attendance will be limited to immediate family members.
