Darrell Lincoln Hurdle, 91, of Oconomowoc, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 after a sudden stroke. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elaine, his daughter Pam (Terry) Jacobson of Tuscaloosa, AL; son Dan (Heidi) Hurdle of Lake Forest, IL; grandchildren Amy (Tony) Rayhorn and Jenny (Brian) Kantarik, both of Tuscaloosa, Seth (Dolores) Jacobson of Hackensack, NJ, Nick Hurdle of Oconomowoc, and David Hurdle and Anna Kate Hurdle of Lake Forest, IL. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, Finnlay and Ferran Rayhorn, and Esai and Andy Jacobson. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glenn, and son Jim. Born Feb. 12, 1923 to Alvin and Lillie Hurdle in Mt. Morris, IL, Darrell graduated from Mt. Morris High School and served in the Navy from 1941-1945, where he worked on drone aircraft. After the war, he worked for 30 years as a pressman at a printing company. On Dec. 7, 1958, he married Grace Elaine Wingert, and in 1977 they moved to Oconomowoc, where he ran the Cooney Cycle Center until 1985. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Breakfast Club, and a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cheering on the Packers, and spending time with his family and many dear friends. He will be remembered for his devotion and appreciation for Elaine, his kind and gentle spirit, and the generosity and love he showed toward his family. Funeral services for Darrell will be held at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Oconomowoc on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service, all to be held at church. Darrell will be laid to rest at LaBelle Cemetery in Oconomowoc.
