Dennis Edward Zastrow

Our Lord has called Dennis Edward Zastrow, age 91, to heaven. He was born to Edward and Ella (Rupnow) Zastrow on March 6, 1928 in the town of Concord and passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Omar and Frank; and sisters, Elaine and Lorraine. Dennis was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Concord. Surviving is his beloved wife of 68 years, Florence; his children: Rick (Diane) Zastrow, Sue (Dennis) Thelen, Steve (Karen) Zastrow, Julie (Dick) Birr, Mary (Louie) Hickenbottom; grandchildren: Jason (Sarah) Thelen, Dan Thelen, Karissa (Brian) Wiley, Rebecca (Christopher) Banach, Joe (Andrea) Thelen, Kevin (Ana) Zastrow, Abby (Ben) Jurken, Nathan (Melissa) Birr, Matthew Birr, Ashley (Drew) Tlamsa, Zach Zastrow, Madalyn (My) Zastrow; great-grandchildren: Abby (Nathan) Kuehl, Emma and Zach Thelen, Audrey and Harper Banach, Joey and Raylan Thelen; and many other relatives and friends. Dennis was an example of a man whose strong faith and service to the Lord carried him throughout his life. This included being the Director of the Board of Elders and Director of the Board of Education at St. Paul’s Church and School as well as District Leader for the Lutheran Laymen’s League and was named Ambassador of the Year in 2007. Dennis coached the church’s high school youth basketball teams for 25 years and also played and coached men’s softball in Ixonia for over two decades. He loved John Deere Tractors and was an avid Packers, Badgers, and Brewers fan. A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 210 Pleasant Street, Oconomowoc, WI. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service. A private burial will be held at Glenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. We all love and miss him dearly.
