Diane Marjorie Mihelich

Diane Marjorie Mihelich (nee Hogblom), age 84, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at her home in Oconomowoc. She was born on August 23, 1935 in Blue Island, Illinois. Diane attended Academy of Our Lady in Chicago (aka Longwood Academy) where she starred in “Brigadoon.” She then matriculated to Mundelein College (now Loyola University) graduating with a degree in music and a minor in psychology. Diane performed in many music recitals during her college years. She went on to earn her Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Diane was one of the youngest principals in the Chicago public school system. She then married her husband, Maurice, and they relocated to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where she resumed her teaching career. Another move to Oak Park, Illinois, and they started their family. Their final move brought them to their home “Windswept” on Lac LaBelle in Oconomowoc in 1974. She was a proud member of the Lac LaBelle Yacht Club, founding member of the Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts, Oconomowoc Lake Club, Club 40, LMB Investment Club, Kettle Moraine Garden Club, the Sip and Bitch Club, and Oconomowoc Women’s Club. She was an accomplished pianist, loved playing tennis, and gardening. She was a gourmet cook and outstanding hostess. Diane is survived by her husband, Maurice; children, Jan (Don Jr.) Zordani of Lake Forest, Illinois, Kurt (Amy) Mihelich of Bay View, Kathryn (Michael) Tweet of Oconomowoc, John (Jane) Mihelich of Naperville, Illinois, William (Colleen) Mihelich of Oconomowoc, Robert (Gabrielle) Mihelich of Bay View; 16 grandchildren, Max, Maggie, Jack and Sarah Mihelich, Katherine, John, Elizabeth, Christina, William and Michael Zordani, Josef and Alina Tweet, Sean and Bryn Mihelich, Cecelia and Lily Mihelich. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Veronica Hogblom; and sister, Gail Giovanetti. Diane was very supportive of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Memorials may be made in Diane’s name to School Sisters of Notre Dame, PO Box 60762, Chicago, IL 60660. Special thanks to Aurora In-Home Hospice Care. The Celebration of Life for Diane Mihelich at the Oconomowoc Lake Club on November 30th has been cancelled and postponed to a later date.
