Donald George Spettel

Donald George Spettel was born in Horicon, WI on November 5, 1924 to parents George and Frances Spettel. He was baptized into God’s family on November 23rd, 1924 and Confirmed his faith in his Lord Jesus Christ on April 10,1938. His Confirmation passage, “Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee the crown of life” Revelation 2:10 also was Lois Ann Dehne’s passage and on May 23, 1948 they would share more than the same passage when Lois became Don’s beloved wife and best friend. He lovingly called her “the boss” with a smile on his face. Don and Lois shared many wonderful years together and enjoyed their love of finding and collecting antiques. Donald had a gift of refinishing wood and spent many hours in his garage turning out beautiful pieces. Before Don met Lois, he graduated from Horicon HS and served in the United States Army in WW2 from 1943-1945 stationed in Africa and then in Southern France at the 80th Station Hospital as a guard. He played on the basketball team for the 80th Station Hospital which he said kept him from the front lines. He always loved basketball and continued in this sport with the Mayville Rec. League when he came home from the war. Donald worked as a plumber and furnace repair man before purchasing his own fuel oil truck, working many years for Mobil Oil until his retirement. His daughters fondly remember riding along on his truck, seeing all the farm animals and eating their share of Tootsie Pops that he always gave to the children on his route. Donald died peacefully at the age of 94 on Monday August 26, 2019 and leaves behind his daughter Claudia (Charles) Lichtie, and daughter Lydia (John) Parlow; grandchildren David (Amanda) Cortez, John Luke Parlow, Micah Parlow and Seth Parlow and great granddaughter Evelyn Cortez. He also leaves behind one sister, Patsy Dittberner and many other beloved friends and relatives including his wonderful neighbors Roy (Hans) and Beth Guenther who without their watchful eye and help with upkeep Donald would never have enjoyed his final years in his home in Ashippun. They were very special friends to Don and continue to be cherished by Don’s daughters. Donald was proceeded in death by his loving wife Lois, married 68 years, his parents George and Frances Spettel and sisters Doris Kruel, Ethel Belligan and Elaine Bischoff and brothers Earl and George Spettel. Donald was a wonderful dad to his daughters and will be very missed...so until we meet in heaven dad...know that we will drive safe and will still want to call you when we get home. Donald was a long-time faithful member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, W3328 County Road O, Sugar Island, WI. Funeral service will be on Saturday, August 31st at 11am with Don’s son in law Dr John Parlow delivering the funeral sermon and Pastor Allen Tetzlaff presiding. Visitation will be at St. Mark’s from 9am until the time of the service. Interment will be at St. Mark’s cemetery with military honors accorded.
