Dorothy M. Porath (nee Karnthaler), age 89, born June 18, 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on April 13, 2014 at her home in Dousman, Wisconsin after a long illness. Dorothy is mourned by her beloved daughters Lynn S. (Phillip) Arazny of Illinois and Phyllis R. (Daniel) Williams of New Jersey and extended family in the greater Milwaukee area. She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband of 59 years Robert C. Porath, as well as by her parents Karl and Marie S. Karnthaler and brother Walter. Dorothy earned a BS Degree from Marquette University and a Master's Degree in Library Science from UW-Madison. She served as a librarian in the Milwaukee Public Library System for many years. At the time of her retirement, she was the Librarian-in-Charge of the McLeneghan neighborhood library. In 1953, Dorothy was chosen 'Miss Librarian of 1878' to commemorate Milwaukee Public Library System's 75 years of service to the citizens of Milwaukee. In elementary school, Dorothy served as the Editor-in-chief of 'School Flashes', the 21st Street school newspaper. She later graduated from North Division High School where she also served as Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook. Dorothy was a member of the American Association of University Women - Milwaukee branch, where she chaired the Fine Arts and Building and Grounds Committees. She was a member of the Austrian Club and was a ten-year annual volunteer at German Fest. She was also a member of the Milwaukee PAF computer users' group and the Pommerscher Verein Freistadt. Dorothy took great pleasure in her world travels, especially to her ancestral homeland, Vienna, Austria where many relatives reside. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held for the family at a later date with interment to follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
