Dwight A. Simon, age 70, of Dousman, passed away Sunday, July 10th, 2016. He was born August 3rd, 1945 to Jack and Irene Simon who preceded him in death, along with his brother Darwin. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Sandy (Kells); his three children: Heidi (Tom) Pinkerton, Chris (Carmen) Simon, and Heather Cash (Tom Schwan); his four granddaughters Cali, Elizabeth, Christina and Julia. Dwight is also survived by his siblings Darrell (Donna) Simon, Jackie Fitzgerald and many other loving family and friends. As a young man he served in the Air Force, followed by a career in software engineering. Dwight spent over 25 years as a worldwide leader in Healthcare Information Technology. For many years he was the VP of Engineering at Merge Healthcare, creating the products that established Merge’s international reputation. He also was a leader in the creation and adoption of the DICOM medical image exchange standard. His reputation for gentle strength was key to moving parties with varying agendas toward the common goal of better patient care. This was also his reputation in the Pretty Lake community where he raised his family and enjoyed the friendships of loving neighbors for 39 years. Dwight loved to travel for both work and pleasure, whether it was family road trips, traveling with his wife around the world or most recently taking his family to Hawaii in January of this year to celebrate 50 years of marriage. Dwight was passionate about the outdoors. His love for fishing was surpassed only by his love for family and his kindness toward others. Dwight was known by all as a warm, thoughtful and loving person. He was the kind of man who was considered by many to be the “soul” of their community, whether at work, at home, or among his neighbors. Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (470 N Oak Crest Dr., Wales) at 3:30 PM. Visitation for family and friends will start at 1:30 PM.
