Eugene Thuot

Eugene W. Thuot, age 83 of the town of Genesee, passed away on September 28, 2011. Eugene was born in Milwaukee on February 21, 1928 to Peter J. and Lydia (Roesler) Thuot. They soon moved to the farming community of Goodrich, WI. His early education was in a one room school. Upon graduation from Athens, WI High School, with $35.00, he was determined to further his education, enrolling in Milwaukee State Teachers College (UW-M). Upon the onset of the Korean War, he joined the Army, serving as a court reporter in which he received, among others, the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Upon his discharge, he enrolled and obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Marquette University. He found a rewarding vocation in 1967 when he joined the University of Wisconsin Extension Center for Urban Community Development as an Urban Specialist, working with various community groups to fulfill neighborhood educational goals. During this time he once again went back to UW-M, obtaining his Master's Degree. In 1983, with his son Jeffrey, they formed Thuot Builders Inc. as general contractors. Upon his retirement from the firm in 2010, he pursued his 'family tree', completing it just before he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Eugene is survived by his wife, Alcyone E. Thuot (nee Pepke), daughter Alcyone Ann Thuot of Burlington and her children Marisa and Nicholas, son Jeffrey (Ann) Thuot of Sullivan, daughter Denise Thuot (Lee Hilbert) of Oxnard, CA. He is further survived by his sister Grace Lang, Milwaukee, brothers Marlin (Arleen), Calvin (Faye), Peter J. (Carol), Ray (Theresa) of the Wausau area, Norman (Madelyne), Park Falls, brothers-in-law Duane (Carol) Pepke , FL and Alver Pepke, CA. Because education was so important in Gene's life, an endowment, 'Eugene W. and Alcyone E. Thuot Endowed Scholarship' has been established with the Medical College of WI, 8701 Watertown Plank Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53226. Memorials would also be appreciated to the MACC Fund, 10000 W. Innovation Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53226. As wished, private family services have been held. The family extends their grateful thanks to Dr. Gilberto A. Rodriguez and Seasons Hospice.
