Evelyn Bartel

Evelyn Elaine Bartel (nee Kummrow) age 86 of Oconomowoc passed away on November 5th, 2011. Evelyn was born April 12, 1925 on Easter Sunday in the Town of Summit to Edward Henry Leonard Kummrow and Viola Christiana Louise Kummrow. She was baptized on May 10th 1925 by Rev. Karl Wedel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sullivan Wisconsin. She was later confirmed there by Rev. Wedel on June 9th 1939. Evelyn graduated from Battle Creek Elementary School in 1939 and from Oconomowoc High School in 1942. She later graduated from Milwaukee Business Institute in 1943 and received additional credits from UW Whitewater in the business education. Other education included secretarial and medical courses along with becoming a Certified Medical Transcriptionist. Evelyn was the first women licensed by the Chicago Board of Health as a 'Sampler, Weigher and Hauler' of bulk milk and was the second licensed woman in the State of Wisconsin. Evelyn married her husband Palmer Franklin Bartel of rural Ixonia on May 6th, 1945. Evelyn is survived by her two daughters Bontilou (Dennis) Schueler and Gayle (Mark) Janzen and her grandchildren Kendra and Kirsten Schueler, Isaiah and Berea Janzen. She was preceded in death by her husband Palmer in 1964, her parents, her infant siblings, Floyd and Sylvia Kummrow and her brother Arland Edward Kummrow, and many other relatives and friends. Evelyn enjoyed traveling which included 47 states and over 50 countries, many of which were visited several times. But her greatest enjoyment was her family and her wonderful grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she taught 1st Grade Saturday School and music for over 18 years. Genealogy was a favorite pastime along with sewing, crocheting, knitting, bobbin lace, and some tatting. She will be deeply missed by her entire family and all who knew her. Services for Evelyn will be on Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 at 6:30 pm with a visitation starting at 3:30 pm all to be held at St. John's Lutheran Church of Sullivan (W407 Hwy 18, Sullivan 53178). Burial will take place at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 at 8:30am.
