Fred Barthenheier, 84, of Oconomowoc, after living 13 years with the effects of a severe stroke, passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 with his family at his side. Fred was a real trooper during this time, accepting his disabilities without complaint. He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years Nancy, children Karen (Robert) Carr, Keane (Alison) Barthenheier, four beautiful granddaughters; Katherine and Alison Carr, Lauren and Megan Barthenheier. Fred was a United States Army veteran who served during WWII. He graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in chemical engineering and a MBA from UW-Whitewater. Our sincere gratitude to the staff of Summer Creek at Shorehaven for their loving care, VITAS Hospice Care and Dr. Dan Cleary, who was always there with support and guidance through Fred's journey. A memorial service for Fred will take place in the third floor chapel at Shorehaven Lutheran Home in Oconomowoc on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shorehaven, VITAS Hospice Care or the Oconomowoc Food Pantry.
