Frederick Herman Schapsmeier

Frederick 'Fred' H. Schapsmeier, age 90 of Oconomowoc, went home on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mary (nee Schmidt), his children Andrew (Anna) Smith, Sandra (Randy) Smith-Dill and William (Mary) Smith along with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister in-law Patricia Langenberg along with other relatives and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lena Schapsmeier, twin brother Edward, brothers Herman and Louis, sister Frieda and a grandson Soren Smith. Fred was a proud veteran of the US Army and later earned his PhD at the University of Southern California. He then became a professor of history at UW Oshkosh. Fred was an avid reader and he loved to share the knowledge that he acquired. He enjoyed golfing and being outdoors while living in Florida for 13 years. Fred was an author of 10 books and one of those was a biography of President Gerald Ford. A Memorial Service for Fred will be held at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church (W359 N8512 Brown St, Oconomowoc) on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11 am. A visitation will be held from 10 am until time of service at 11 am.
