George L. Schmid

George L Schmid Monroe, NC George L Schmid, 82, passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2018. He will now reunite in his final resting place with his wife Judith A Schmid. They were married for 55 years and she was the love of his life. He also joins his dear son Timothy R Schmid. George was born to the late Roland Schmid and his mother Joyce Christenson Kleinschmidt. He is also predeceased by his stepfather Benjamin Kleinschmidt, his brother Robert Kleinschmidt, and aunt Ruth Christenson Wegner. He is survived by his son Michael Schmid and his wife Ann, his brother John Kleinschmidt and his wife Lisa, nephews Jeffries and Mark Kleinschmidt, and cousins Robert Wegner and Sally Christenson Anton. Born and raised Oconomowoc Wisconsin, George graduated high school as a four year letterman in three sports. He attended and graduated The University of Wisconsin where he was a standout pitcher on the baseball team while studying to become a teacher and coach. He later signed a professional baseball contract to play in the Detroit Tigers organization. When he and Judy became parents with their son Mike, he decided to leave his baseball ambitions behind and pursue an opportunity to go to work with the Pontiac Division of General Motors. He would tell you it was the best decision he ever made for his family. He worked his entire 36 year career with GM. He was so appreciative to have worked alongside so many wonderful people during his nine relocations throughout the country. Many of those relationships have lasted a lifetime. He was such a special man; he was a loving husband and devoted father. Although the world will be a lesser place without him, he touched so many lives and the memories of him will be forever cherished. Funeral services were private and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you just live and love life to the fullest.
