Some lives are meant to be lived large. In his time with us, Gregory Charles Nettesheim taught us all how to live a life filled with love, and how to appreciate the pleasure of living in the moment. Greg passed from this world on November 22, 2022, but the mark he left on the world is significant.
Greg deeply loved his children, Issac Gregory (19) and MadaLynn Mckenzie (17). He took pride in teaching them essential life lessons, sharing with them his own brand of humor, and helping them to grow into the loving and caring young people they have grown to be. From the moment Greg learned he would be a father, he set his focus on being the father and provider he needed to be for his children, and his commitment to them is unquestionable. As young adults, Greg has become their best friend.
Commitment was at the core of Greg’s being in every aspect of his life.
Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his daily hard work as a yard manager in a building supply shop, Greg defied the expectations of young people his age and taught us what it means to demonstrate an incredible work ethic. Greg worked hard every day. He was always insistent upon and proud of a job done to completion the right way.
As the source of support, stability, and connection for a multitude of friends that streamed through his life, Greg taught us what it means to be an unceasingly committed friend in the best and worst of times. Whether it was a place to stay, a drink and a hug, or a helping hand, Greg gave to his friends from an authentically loving place. Greg’s friends meant the world to him, and his friends relied upon him in the same way.
Building his life in the Oconomowoc area, Greg was committed to constant contact with his children, parents, siblings and family. Greg taught us the value of building a life centered on the bond of family. Greg was full of big emotions and his family knew all of them. At the core of it all, though, was a man that loved and cared deeply for those he called son and daughter, Mom and Dad, brother and sister, niece and nephew, and granddaughter.
For Greg, life was about a commitment to truly enjoy the many pleasures of life. Whether in the freedom of time spent fishing and hunting outdoors, maintaining and harvesting from his garden, enjoying an incredible meal or cut of meat, or participating in an evening of celebrating with friends, Greg reminded us that today is the day we need to live our most joyful life.
Greg — a dad, a son, a brother, a grandfather, an uncle, and a friend - has left us far too soon. His big personality, deep and sincere emotions, incredibly loving heart, and appreciation for the very best things in life serve as the basis for our fondest and most loving memories of him. Greg privately carried many hardships in his life, but remained committed to continually giving, providing, protecting, celebrating, and loving all of us. May we all honor his example by remaining committed to each other in the many years to come.
Greg is survived by his children, Issac and Maddy; his parents, Cathy and Chuck; his granddaughter, Andi Jean; his siblings, Stacy (Brian) Yearling and Ryan (Krystal); his nieces and nephew, Ella and Sophie Yearling, Kairi and Jayce Nettesheim; and his former wife, Megan. He is also survived by many other special family members and friends who are too numerous to list. We will all miss him dearly.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Pagenkopf Funeral Home (new location), 2228 N. Silver Maple Lane in Oconomowoc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, W359 N8512 Brown Street in Oconomowoc, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at church.
