Herbert Werth

Age 94 of Oconomowoc, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Aurora Medical Center in Oconomowoc. Herb was born on November 28, 1915 in the Town of Lebanon, the son of Edward and Amanda (Uttech) Werth. He graduated from St. Peter’s Lutheran School of Lebanon. He married Lillian Radke on June 1, 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ashippun. This past June, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Herb was a respected dairy farmer, and in retirement continued to grow a multi-acre garden and was a regular for many years at the Oconomowoc Saturday Market. He also enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, and he was an avid cribbage player. His passion for John Deere tractors and equipment was legendary, and he was a collector of bells. He loved his family and was especially proud of his two great-grandsons, Ayden and Noah. He was for many years an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Oconomowoc and served multiple terms on the board of elders. In the last years of his life he re-joined St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Lebanon, where he had been baptized and confirmed. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Werth of Oconomowoc; a daughter, Karen Dean, also of Oconomowoc; one grandchild, Carolynn (Michael) Mosey of Lake Orion, Michigan; two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Noah Mosey; two brothers, Raymond Werth Sr. of Watertown, and Edgar (Adeline) Werth of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Esther Werth of Beaver Dam, and Elsie Jaenicke of Brookfield; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Grimm; and a brother, Marcus. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Lebanon. A service of Resurrection comfort will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30th at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Lebanon with the Rev. John Kelling officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
