Howard Lawrence Buss

Howard Lawrence Buss of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at home with his family on the morning of February 17, 2025 at the age of 83. He was born on September 12, 1941 in Columbus, Wisconsin and raised in Reeseville. 

He attended Reeseville High School, UW-Milwaukee, and was a graduate of the UW-Madison Graduate School of Banking. Howard enjoyed a 35 year career as a banker in locations across southeast Wisconsin. He was an engaged community member volunteering for leadership positions at the YMCA, United Way, and the Chamber of Commerce. Howard was a curious life-long learner, regularly embracing new hobbies. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his intelligence, sense of humor, strong will, integrity, and faith.

Howard took time to mentor younger business professionals and his three children throughout their lives. He was known for giving unvarnished, no nonsense and helpful guidance. He loved his family and was a caring and dedicated grandson, son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. 

Howard is survived by his wife Kathleen Godsell Buss who was the love of his life and devoted partner. Howard and Kathy were happily married for 58 years. He is also survived by his daughter Laura Buss Sayavedra (Houston) and children Leo and Kristoph. Steven Buss (Minneapolis) and his children Audrey and Owen. Michelle Buss De La Garza (Dallas) and her husband Jose and their daughter Eva. 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lawrence and Irma Buss and his brother Jerome (Shirley). He is survived by his brother Richard (Margaret) and his sisters Nancy (Donald), Barbara and Carolyn (Thomas). 

A funeral mass will be held Friday March 28th at St Jerome Catholic Church (995 Silver Lake Street) in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the church with the mass beginning at 11:00 a.m.
