HOWARD G. NELSON, CDR USNR (Ret.), age 91 of Oconomowoc, passed away at home on October 27,2017. Howard is preceded in death by his father and mother, Benjamin and Mildred Nelson and his granddaughter Claire Elizabeth. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Freda and his sons and daughter, David (Barbara) of Eau Claire, Donald (Kimberly) of Whitehall, MI, and Holly of Pewaukee. He is further survived by his grandchildren Allison of Chicago, Megan of Orlando, Grant of Milwaukee, Lauren of Chicago, Eric of Whitehall, and his brother Roger (Susan) of Fredericksburg, VA, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Howard was born in Chicago and was a lifelong Cubs fan. One of his greatest joys was seeing his beloved Cubs win the 2016 World Series. He was a WW II veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre and in China with the US Navy while serving on the USS Markab (AD21) and then retired as a full Commander serving his country from 1944 - 1986. Howard attended North Park College and graduated from Northwestern University (BBA 1949) and was a life member of Delta Sigma Pi, business fraternity. He became a Certified Public Accountant and was employed 38 years by subsidiaries of the Milwaukee Journal Company prior to his retirement in 1990. He held various financial positions including Director, CFO, Treasurer and Senior Vice President for Tempo Communications, Inc. of Milwaukee and Perry Printing Company of Waterloo, WI. In addition, Howard served as a Director and Treasurer of Christ the King Lutheran Church, as a Director of the Pewaukee Yacht Club, and was a lifelong active member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He will be remembered for his high standards of integrity, honesty, financial expertise, his deep love of his wife, Freda, and his strong Christian beliefs and standards as a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Delafield. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of Howard’s caregivers at Visiting Angels, Vitas Hospice, and the support he received from his many friends at Lake Terrace Apartments. This made his last year comfortable and enjoyable. He will be missed by all who knew him. A funeral service will be held for Howard on October 31 at Christ the King Lutheran Church (1600 N Genesee St, Delafield, WI 53018) at 12:30 pm. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11 am to 12:30 pm. A Military internment at Rose Hill Cemetery (5800 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL 60660) will be held on November 1st at 10:30 am. Please omit any flowers and any Memorials can be sent to either Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Schaumburg, IL or Christ the King Lutheran Church in Delafield, WI.
