Howard William Fischer

Howard William Fischer was born on January 12, 1927 to John and Edna (Schlender) Fischer who resided in Waukesha at the time of his birth. Howard was called by the Lord on November 14, 2024. He died peacefully at Wilkinson Woods in Oconomowoc. Upon graduation from high school, Howard left his parents and sister, Lois, to enlist in the United States Army. He served overseas in Italy during the final days of WWII and was a lifelong member of the Oconomowoc VFW. Upon returning from duty, he met Barbara Aulsebrook whom he married in Oconomowoc on May 7, 1949. To support his growing family, Howard and his father, John, established Fischer Builders. Many people benefited from his skills as a carpenter and mason contractor which became Howard's profession most of his life. He had been ready for some time to be brought home, but the Lord had not yet prepared his room. Howard is now there, but his spirit and legacy live on in those who loved him.

After 64 years of marriage, Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and also sister, Lois (Knoble). He will be greatly missed by his children; Kathleen (Dan) Wise, Monica (Brad) Hansen, Mark (Kerry) Fischer, Kim (Joseph) Tappa, Eric (Dawn) Fischer. He loved his grandchildren who also will miss him; Chad (Kristen) Hansen, Matthew (Katie) Hansen, Rachael (Wade) Mundschau, Heather (Tim) Wittkopp, Nicholas (Tom) Tappa-Stec, Jennifer (Kevin) Kutschenreuter, and Megan Tappa/Chris Giles, Jake Rybarski and John Tyler Fischer; great-grandchildren, Reese and Riley Hansen, Sawyer and Annalise Mundschau, Kaden, Carson and Emery Wittkopp, Levi, Owen, Vivian and Luther Kutschenreuter, and Lillian Giles. He is also survived by his good friend, Betty Weber and other relatives and friends.

After Barbara’s passing on March 3, 2014, Howard remained in the home built on Allen Road in Oconomowoc. In 2017, he moved to the Wilkinson properties where he resided until his death. During his final years, Howard became a prayer warrior as his days involved daily devotion and prayers for his family and friends.

Howard had requested a private graveside celebration of life.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Wilkinson Woods and St. Croix Hospice for their care of him in the last year.
