James Byrum Harris

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Byrum Harris, who left us peacefully on March 4, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on August 12, 1957, in Gary, Indiana, Jim was the beloved son of Robert and Marjorie (Peg) Harris of Oconomowoc.

Jim is survived by his sisters, Sue (Pat Teiken) Harris, Lynn (Scott) Graff, and Margie (Joe) Holland, as well as seven nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and other family members, housemates and many friends.

Jim lived in Waukesha for many years where he enjoyed working at Easter Seals and more recently Pantheon. During his life he enjoyed dancing, bowling, art, music and competing in Special Olympics. He especially enjoyed getting together with his family, spending time at the lake, playing Uno, going out to dinner, watching his favorite movie, LaBamba, eating chocolate sundaes and drinking Diet Pepsi.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Homes for Independent Living and My Choice Wisconsin who worked with and supported Jim over the many years helping him to live a full and rich life.

The family also wishes to thank ProHealth Hospice and Waukesha Memorial Hospital nurses for their care and support of Jim in his final hours.

In lieu of flowers memorials to Special Olympics or a charity of your choice in Jim’s name are welcome.

A gathering to celebrate Jim's life will take place on Tuesday, March 11,2025, at Pagenkopf Funeral Home (NEW LOCATION): 2228 N. Silver Maple Lane, Oconomowoc, WI 53066). Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to11:30 AM followed by a remembrance of Jim and a lunch from 11:30 AM -1:30 PM.
