John D. Quill

John D. Quill, age 76, found peace and rest in his Savior’s arms early Wednesday, February 26, 2020 after a short illness. He was the loving husband and best friend of Barbara (nee Guenterberg) for 52 years. Dear Dad to children, Sherrie (Don) Reuter and Daniel (Rachel) Quill. Proud Grandpa to Paige and Chloe Reuter and Mason and Bryce Quill. Further survived by sisters-in-law, Rosemary Quill, Joan Quill and Nancy Frinzi Guenterberg and brother-in-law, Myron “Mike” Guenterberg; nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his infant son, James; his parents, Gilmore and Emma Quill; brothers, David and Jerry; and sister, Shirley Thompson; also his in-laws, Milton and Dorothy Guenterberg. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Morse code interceptor in Turkey and Germany from 1962-1965. John was employed in sales for many years, and later was a custodial supervisor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and also St. James Catholic Church until his retirement. He loved fishing on his pontoon boat “UFF-DA” on Friess Lake wearing his “Captain Quill” hat, was an avid Packer fan, and enjoyed playing a good game of Sheepshead or any card game with family and friends. John was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Slinger, serving as an usher, singing in choir with Barb, and attempting to be a good dartball player. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 799 St. Paul Drive in Slinger, with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for John are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Christian Life Resources, Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School or the Washington County Humane Society.
