John Gourlie, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and son at Pillars Hospice on August 8, 2010 after suffering a stroke. Born to Forest and Nellie nee Curphey on January 11,1920, John was a dairy farmer in Ashippun, tending to his family farm as a young man and owning and operating his own farm after his marriage to Shirley Tremaine in1949. John loved farming; caring for and loving the land and his animals before retiring. He was active in his church and a strong supporter of the Ashippun community. John was a member and Past President of Neosho Lodge and member and Past President of the Oconomowoc Shrine Club. John had brilliant blue eyes that would sparkle when he talked about his grandchildren, twinkle when he made a humorous comment and glisten as he drove a hard bargain. John will be deeply missed by his loving wife and life partner Shirley, son Jay (Barb); grandchildren Justin and Keegan; sister Elizabeth (Tootie) Boden (Jack), brother-in-law Dale Tremaine(Jane), sister-in -law Ruth Esser (Bob), many nieces, nephews and great-cousins in the Gourlie, Curphey, and Tremaine families and many other friends. Services will be conducted by father Tom Holtzen on August 14, 2010 at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, Ashippun. Funeral Mass at 5:00 pm with visitation beginning at 3:30 pm. Interment at St. Paul?s Cemetery following the service.
