John "Jack" George Smid

OCONOMOWOC - John "Jack" George Smid, age 80, of Oconomowoc, passed away on his 80th birthday, Saturday, February 22, 2020 at AngelsGrace Hospice, surrounded by his family. He was born February 22, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Dr. John and Marie Smid. He attended Marquette University, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Susan Ann Rentmeester. They were married at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Oconomowoc on August 24, 1963. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling. Jack enjoyed cooking as family grill master, and Friday Night Fish Fry with special friends. He was a member of the Oconomowoc Kiwanis Breakfast Club; and, he was Governor of Wisconsin/Upper Michigan District for 1991-2. He loved being a dad and grandpa. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan "Sue" Smid; his children John (Kelly) Smid, Catherine (Brian) Sinkula, and David (Terri) Smid; 8 grandchildren: Amber Smid, Cory Smid, Zachary Smid, Ali (Trent) Goodin, Kaylyn Sinkula, Lindsay Sinkula, Samantha Smid, and Emily Smid; as well as his brother, Michael (Ingrid) Smid. Jack is preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 pm, Saturday February 29th, 2020 at St. Catherine's of Alexandria Catholic Church, W359 N8512, Brown St, Oconomowoc, WI 53066, with Fr. Mike Strachota presiding. A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to AngelsGrace Hospice, St. Catherine's of Alexandria Catholic Church or The Kiwanis District Foundation - The Case Van Kleef Fellowship, would be appreciated.
