June Margaret Luer

June Margaret (Clark) Luer, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully embraced by her family, November 9th 2022. June was 94 years old.

In her heyday June could waltz on roller skates. That’s how she met her husband, Harvey. She remained a good dancer and taught her daughter how to jitterbug and polka while cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. Her son, Todd, is an excellent dancer as well. (Note: he did not clean up the kitchen to receive dance lessons.)

June might have forgotten many things, but in her later years she could still tell you, in great detail, how to make brick cheese. She learned this skill from summers spent at the side of her cheesemaking/buttermaking family, by way of Canton Bern, Switzerland, to Hartford, WI.

One of June’s great joys was having a house full of kids, grandkids and anyone else who popped in, especially around the holidays. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Luer kitchen table was loaded with multiple trays of homemade Christmas cookies waiting for the door to open to a rotating guest list of friends and family. The more, the merrier! In fact, no matter, the season, both June and Harv were known for setting a large table in their small kitchen. In fact, setting an extra plate at the Luer family table was so customary, many of those friends remained in June’s life long after her children had grown.

One of June’s other personal joys was tending to her many flower gardens. If you were lucky enough to live on the block and got a peek into the back yard during the summer, you know. June’s grandmother, Rosa Indermuehle, was an avid gardener and June took great inspiration from Grandma Rosa’s flowerbeds. Then, when winter rolled around, June became a one-woman afghan factory. “Does anyone need an afghan?” she’d ask. The answer was always “yes.”

Late in life, June became an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and attended her first game on her 89th birthday. (She has a Bernie Brewer bobble head—and a proud son-in-law—to prove it!)

As you might imagine, June has outlived many of her dearest people: her husband, Harvey Luer, siblings, Don and Shirley Clark, sons Mark and Jeff, along with cousins, nieces, neighbors, co workers and friends.

June’s memory will be celebrated by her daughter Pam Luer (Gary Bingner), son Todd (Karen) Luer, daughter-in-law, Elaine Luer, sister-in-law, Ann Luer, grandchildren Jessica, Jonathon, Grant (Kylie) and Emily Luer, along with nieces, nephew, cousins and friends. One of June’s lifelong goals was to become a great grandma. Her great grandson, Fortuitously, Ried Emmett Luer arrived May, 2022, to parents Grant and Kylie Luer. Well done family!

Donations: In June’s honor, buy a big beautiful bouquet of flowers for someone you love. Or yourself. Bake up a storm of Christmas cookies this year. Learn how to crochet. If you already know how, donate an afghan to a senior residence near you. This would make June very happy. If you can’t think of anyone to send flowers, cookies or afghans to may we suggest the hard working staff at Three Pillars in Dousman, WI. Our family remains grateful for June’s final year in their excellent care. Attention: Angela T. @ MCHR Three Pillars 400 N. Main St. Dousman, WI 53118.
