Karen Ann Schweizer

Karen Ann Schweizer passed peacefully on January 11, 2020 at age 74 with family by her side. She was born to Roland and Kathryn Hunsader on June 9, 1945 in Watertown, WI. She was raised in Fort Atkinson, WI and attended Edgewood College in Madison, WI. Karen married Thomas Schweizer on December 30, 1967. They had two daughters, Laura and Nicole. Karen was a 5th grade teacher and computer teacher at schools in Virginia Beach, VA and Jacksonville, IL, as well as St. Jerome Catholic School in Oconomowoc. Education and teaching was her passion. Not only was it her chosen profession, it was evident in her relationships and daily life. Karen enjoyed camping and traveling to 48 states and 52 countries, she was an avid reader, she played online bridge daily, she knit more than 40 sweaters and countless baby blankets and afghans, she was an impressive seamstress, and she also enjoyed playing the piano, golf, Mahjong, and gardening. She was a member of many organizations including Women’s Club, Hospital Auxiliary, Greenland School’s theater group, Gourmet Club, two book clubs, New Comers, Up N Comers and 11 bridge groups. These were all opportunities to socialize and build life-long friendships. Karen’s Catholic faith was a center stone of her upbringing and marriage. She had strong relationships with God, family, and friends. Karen is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Tom, two daughters, Laura (Jon) Svatek and Nicole (Patrick) Marcott, three siblings Greg (Gretchen) Hunsader, Ann (Bob) Feucht and Joe (Mattie) Hunsader, and six grandchildren: Alyx, Natalie, Dylan, Jacob, Adam, and Josh. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 1165 E. Summit Avenue, Oconomowoc. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, W359 N8512 Brown St, Oconomowoc, WI 53066, with a visitation from 11:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joan of Arc endowment or scholarship fund, 120 Nashotah Rd, Nashotah, WI 53058; or to Katy’s Kloset, 404 Wilmont Dr, Unit D, Waukesha, WI 53189, would be appreciated.
