Kenneth Alvin Lurvey

Kenneth Alvin Lurvey died peacefully at home on January 28, 2015, in Dousman, Wisconsin, at the age of 72. His loving family was by his side. He is survived by his dear mother, Doris (Howell) Lurvey ; his devoted wife, Linda; his daughters, Kim Belton and Kari Alonso; his son, Brad; and beloved grandchildren, Ryan (Jordan) Belton, Rebecca Belton, Gabriella Alonso, Jessica Lurvey and Sergio (A.J.) Alonso; other relatives and friends. Ken was born on August 4, 1942, in Waukesha, WI, to Allan and Doris (Howell) Lurvey. He graduated from Waukesha High School in 1960. He also attended UW Madison, where he took agricultural classes. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Sumpter in 1962. Ken was the third generation farmer on the family dairy farm, raising registered Guernsey cows and continuing the legacy that his grandfather, Harvey Lurvey began. He also worked for the Waukesha Highway Department, before taking over the farm, which he later operated with Brad. Ken was a past member of the Dousman Fire Department, past president of the Wisconsin Guernsey Breeder’s Association and an honorary member of the Dousman American Legion Post #405. He was also a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Ottawa. He loved farming, gardening, and spending time with his family, friends, and his Labs. Funeral services for Ken will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Ottawa, S37W35415 County Road D in Dousman on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service, all to be held at the church. Burial will take place at Ottawa Cemetery following the service. The Lurvey’s would like to express their gratitude to the family of Kevin Craig, for the gift of life that gave Ken 12 more years with his family, and to his brother Karl for donating a kidney. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Stephan Dolan, and the Froedtert Hospital transplant team and coordinators, Jill, Sara, and Jennifer. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s name can be made to the Froedtert Hospital Transplant Program, 9200 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53225.
