Kenneth Chandler went home to be with the Lord on December 30, 2015, a few months shy of his 98th birthday. A long time resident of Oconomowoc, Ken spent the last 15 years living at Kirkland Crossings in Pewaukee. He was one of 5 children, born on March 24th, 1918 in Elkhart, Indiana, to Amanda and Leroy Chandler. Ken’s life reflected his deep faith, a testimony to the Lord he loved and trusted. He had the gift of encouragement and a special way of making each person feel valued. His sensitivity and sense of humor were endearing qualities and he enjoyed the friendship of both young and old. He leaves a rich legacy. Ken attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago and spent most of his years working in commercial art, including his own business, Chandler Advertising in Waukesha. He subsequently served as Director of Community Relations for Kettle Moraine Hospital. Ken was President of both the Oconomowoc Rotary Club and the Toastmasters Club, placing 2nd in a national speech competition. After retiring, Ken did a good deal of writing, hosted a Christian radio show (at 90 years of age!), was a frequent speaker for Christian groups, was an inspiring mentor, and wrote a blog for the men’s ministry at his church until his death. Ken was a member of and served as an elder at Oakwood Church where he was loved and well known. Ken is survived by his daughter, Sharon Benz (Dennis) of San Jose, CA, grandchildren Carrie Manriquez of Folsom, CA, Amy Fowler of Barre, VT and Megan Binn (Dan) of Los Altos, CA, Heidi Rayder of Malibu, CA, Missy Rayder of New York, Molly Rayder of Underwood, WA, and Robbie Rayder of Chandler, AZ as well as great-grandchildren Ryan, Tyler, Brandon, Sunny and Luka. He is also survived by the love of his life, Lois Nelsen, who brought immeasurable joy to his days. He was predeceased by his wife of 50+ years, Ann Eckert (2000), and daughter, Lynn Rayder (2015). Services are scheduled at Oakwood Church, 3041 Oakwood Road Hartland, WI for Saturday, January 16th at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow at the Church. Ken sponsored two children from India through Compassion International and memorial donations in his name can be sent to Compassion International, 12290 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921-3668.
