Leslie C King

Leslie C. King, age 79, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024.

Leslie was born in Washington DC on October 3, 1945 to Douglas and Laura Scherer. Leslie grew up in New Orleans, LA. She attended Mills College in Oakland, CA and received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. After college, Leslie met Howard Coleman in northern Wisconsin. They were married and they moved to Oconomowoc, WI, a town that Leslie loved and was happily connected to for the majority of her life. Leslie loved and cherished the Coleman family, including her many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Howard and Leslie had two children, Juliayn and Scott. Leslie worked at Oconomowoc High School and was very involved in the theater, in particular providing costumes for theater productions. Leslie and Howard grew apart over time and were divorced. Later, Leslie met Dale King, got married, and was welcomed immediately with much warmth into the King family. Leslie proudly considered herself a King family member for the rest of her life. Leslie and Dale lived in Colgate, WI for many years. After Dale passed away, Leslie moved back to Oconomowoc and cheerfully lived at Shorehaven among many friends until her passing.

Leslie pursued many interests and hobbies. Leslie loved miniatures and had a collection of dolls and dollhouses, which she was always happy to share with interested children. She was very interested in charting out her ancestry. She traveled to a number of places to obtain information about her ancestry, including Scotland to gather information about her ancestors in the Leslie clan and Ireland for ancestors in the Clancy family. She prepared many handwritten documents that archived her family history, which she passed on to her descendants. Leslie loved to travel with Dale, including an adventurous safari in South Africa. Leslie loved the arts and especially loved attending the Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts. She and Dale spent much time tending their extensive, beautiful, and productive garden in Colgate. Leslie was also interested in birdwatching and identifying any birds that came to visit her bird feeders.

Leslie is loved and survived by her children, Juliayn and Scott, her grandchild, Ava, her brother and his wife, David and Candyce, her sister and her husband, Linda and Mack, her stepchildren, Kathy, Laura, Julie, Brian, Susan, Michael, and Charles, and her many King grandchildren.

A funeral will be held for Leslie at 10:30am on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Colgate, WI. Instead of flowers, Leslie’s family prefers donations to be made to the organizations that Leslie loved so dearly: Oconomowoc High School Theater Department, Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts, and Shorehaven in Oconomowoc.
