Lois M. Roberts, age 76, of Oconomowoc, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Sunset Ridge Memory Care in Jefferson. Lois was born on June 5, 1940 in Poplar Grove, Illinois to George G. and C. Lucille (Dawson) Pollnow. She married Bernard J. Roberts (deceased) on June 6, 1965. Lois is survived by her son - Aari Roberts (Jodi), daughter - Andrea Roberts and grandchildren - Maya and Seth Roberts. She is also survived by her sister - Ann Lucille Pollnow Oswald (Charles) and her brother - George Wesley Pollnow (Patricia). Lois graduated from North Boone High School, Capron, IL in 1958. She was Vice President of her class and was active in the student council, the chorus, played saxophone in the band, was a member of FHA, the Girls Athletic Association and the youth group at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church. She often won awards for her sewing and for her homemade cookies in 4-H. She attended Northern IL University, Dekalb, graduating in 1962 with a BS in Elementary Education and attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, obtaining her Masters Degree as a reading specialist. Lois’ career in teaching began in West Allis and then for most of her career she taught special education at Webster School in Watertown, WI. She developed the Concept Organizer, a tool for teachers to help students learn words and read. Lois was an avid gardener and a very active member of the First Congregational Church of Christ in Oconomowoc. She sang and played the handbells in the choir, with dear friends. Lois was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, teacher, and friend. Her generous spirit and kindness will be long remembered. A Memorial Service for Lois will take place at First Congregational Church of Christ in Oconomowoc, on April 29 of 2017. A memorial fund for Lois is set up through the First Congregational Church of Christ for music and education. Donations can be made directly to the church.
