Lorraine M. Heideman

Lorraine (Koenigs) Heideman Feb 1 , 1922 - May 29, 2013 Lorraine Heideman passed away peacefully on May 29th. Lorraine is fondly remembered by hundreds of former students, as she was a first grade teacher at Brown Street, Meadow View, and Ashippun elementary schools. Lorraine started teaching in 1944 in one-room country schools in western Iowa. Her second year she froze her fingers while walking to a remote schoolhouse, and for two weeks she couldn't turn pages or write on the blackboard. A graduate of Nebraska State Teacher's College and Drake University, Lorraine met her beloved Marine husband, Robert, after WWII, and they married in 1950. Lorraine's seven children were born between 1951 and 1962. Never idle, Lorraine began substitute teaching in 1966 and then took a full-time teaching position with Oconomowoc Public Schools. In retirement Lorraine enjoyed winters in Texas,where she loved swimming, line dancing, bicycling, reading, and volunteering in the local schools helping children learn to read. Lorraine is survived by husband, Robert, children Kathy (Jim), David (Sue), Tom (Martha), Jim (Sonya), Rhonda (Jon), Renee (Cam), grandchildren Eric, Craig, Kristin, Wade, Amber, Rachel, Alyson, and Arley, and great grandchild Jeremy. Lorraine is predeceased by daughter, Annette. Funeral mass for Lorraine will take place at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Mapleton on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Burial will follow the mass at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to Wisconsin Literacy, Inc. or Catholic Charities preferred.
