Lucille “Lucy” E. Shanks, age 91, of Oconomowoc, WI, passed away peacefully among loved ones on July 10, 2019. Lucy was born on November 9, 1927, in Chicago, IL. She grew up in Evanston, graduating from Evanston Township High School. She attended Mundelein College in Chicago before transferring to Carroll College in Waukesha, WI, where she earned degrees in biology and art. She married the love of her life, David L. Shanks, in 1949. The couple started their lives in Evanston, eventually moving to Oconomowoc, WI. Lucy spent her days raising her family, as well as volunteering her time and heart to help others. She tutored young people and was very involved with both the YMCA and Zion Episcopal Church. She was also an accomplished artist with an eye for the world around her. A devoted and loving mother, Lucy was happiest in the company of her family. She loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with loved ones was important to her. A born grandmother, she would spend hours on the floor playing with and cuddling kids of all ages. Lucy was known for her ready smile and quick wit and had a kind word for everyone she met. She and Dave were an integral part of their church as well as their community. They were a couple who loved each other and allowed that love to spill over into the world around them. Lucy is survived by her six children, Kent (Annette), Todd (Rose), Jenny (Robert) Dorsey, Ellen, Lori (Shannon) Minch, and Scott (Heather). Lucy is further survived by her 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her husband, Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Ennis and Flavie Prudhomme, her daughter, Lynne, and her brothers and sisters. A Funeral Mass for Lucy will be held on Wednesday, July 24, at St. Michael’s Anglican Church (612 Milwaukee St., Delafield) with a visitation for family and friends starting at 11:00 a.m. and Mass beginning at 1:00 p.m. A private inurnment for Lucy will be held at Zion Episcopal Church later in the week. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. Michael’s Anglican Church (612 Milwaukee St., Delafield, WI 53018) or to The YMCA at Pabst Farms (1750 E. Valley Rd., Oconomowoc, WI 53066). The family would like to say a special thank you to Azura Memory Care and Hometown Hospice for the special care they gave Lucy. An incredibly special lady, who loved laughter, children and ice cream (possibly in equal measure), Lucy will be truly missed but never forgotten.
