Marian Claire “Mimi” Widmoyer (Schaffer), 87 of Oconomowoc, WI and formally of Naperville and Plainfield, IL, passed away on March 15 at Towner Crest Memory Care. She was born on March 26, 1937 in Racine, WI. Marian graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine and was inducted into the Washington Park H.S Hall of Fame in 1996 for noteworthy achievements and contributions to the field of education. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin, 1959; Master of Science in Educational Administration, Northern Illinois University, 1980; Educational Specialist, Northern Illinois University, 1983; Doctor of Education, Northern Illinois University 1989.

Early in her career, Marian raised her family and demonstrated her love of children by teaching Nursery School. She was also employed in the Lisle (Illinois) School District 202, beginning in 1977 to 1995 as a Middle School teacher and Gifted Education teacher, and then the Principal of Meadows and Schiesher Elementary School. After retiring, she became the Director of Academic Affairs with Glenwood School for Boys in St. Charles, IL. in 1996.

Marian was a long-time member and volunteer at Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville, Illinois. She was a member of many service organizations and had many leadership roles such as serving on the Executive Lisle Rotary Board. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority at the University of Wisconsin.

Marian “Mimi” enjoyed a wonderful life and was in many social activities with her husband, Jim, who she was married to for 51 years. She was an avid Bridge Club player, loved to travel and was a “snowbird” in Bonita Springs, FL.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, James Russel Widmoyer; parents, Roy Wendell and Elva Mae (Umland) Schaffer; and brother Richard Schaffer of Racine, WI. Survivors are her daughter, Ellyn (Mike) Helberg of Oconomowc, WI and her son, David (Susan) Widmoyer of Franklin, TN. Four grandsons survive her, Matthew (Lisa) Dillman of Hartland, WI, Michael (Katlyn) Dillman of Sussex, WI, Blake Widmoyer of Arlington, Virginia and Danny Widmoyer of Highland Park, IL. Five great-grandchildren survive her Emily Dillman, Carter Dillman, Elanie Dillman, Mason Dillman, and Addison Dillman, as well as her sisters-in-law, JoAnne Schaffer of Leander, TX, Lynn Widmoyer of Edina, MN and three nieces and two nephews

A very special thank you to the Oconomowoc Towner Crest Retirement Community staff in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care. A special thank you to Oida, who was mom’s special caretaker, and the Brighton Hospice staff. The love and special attention our mother received from all who worked with her was beyond our expectations.
