Martin Joseph Zwieg

Martin J. Zwieg, age 83, of Ashippun passed away on April 11, 2014 from complications of Parkinson’s disease at Angel’s Grace Hospice. He was born on February 3rd, 1931, in the Town of Lebanon to Joseph and Ella (Braunschweig) Zwieg. He married Shirley Martin on November 22nd, 1958. He was baptized, confirmed, married and remained a life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sugar Island. Martin was a dairy farmer and resided on the original Zwieg family homestead farm. Martin is survived by his loving wife Shirley, his three children Kathy (Harold) Rennhack, Joseph (Lisa) Zwieg and Therese (Robert) Guenther, along with his six grandchildren Brandon (Laci Broom) Rennhack, Kyle (Rachel) Zwieg, Kevin (Taylor) Zwieg, Jacob, Luke and Andrew Guenther and one great grandchild Cash Martin Rennhack. Martin is further survived by his brother and sister in-laws; Diane Martin, Marion Martin, Rita Jungbluth, Roger and Betty Tremaine, Ed Martin,Jim and Barbara Kuehl, Suzie Martin Grulke, Jim and Jacky Martin, Christine Martin, Scott and Ginny Tremaine, Steve and Marge Martin and Bob & Pat Bergman. Martin is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ella, his brother Harold and his sister Margaret (Calvin) Neuhaus. He is further preceded by his brother and sister in-laws; Vilas and Joan Wittnebel, Ralph and Mae Martin, Richard Martin, Douglas Martin, Leo and Mary Komp, Joe Jungbluth, Thomas Martin, Michael Martin Over the years he faithfully served St. Paul’s church in a variety of positions. He served his country in the 2nd Marine Air Wing of the United States Marine Corps, and was a proud life member of the Bartelme-Schwefel Marine Corps Detachment in Watertown. Martin was also a member of the Oconomowoc American Legion Post 91. He was one of the founding members of the Sugar Island Sportsmen Club. He enjoyed card playing, bowling, dartball, his Oliver tractors, and especially his wife’s good home cooking. His life-long interest in poultry and waterfowl will be honored with the release of a pigeon at his burial. He loved spending time with his family and was especially supportive of his grandson’s interests in sports and other activities. As a farmer, he inspired all his grandsons to become involved in agriculture. His sense of humor, influence, and support will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Sugar Island on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 4:30 P.M. with Pastor Daniel Helwig presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 1:30 P.M. until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to the church or to the Bartelme-Schwefel Marine Corps Detachment of Watertown.
