Mary Ann Landis (1950-2024)
Mary Ann Landis became an eternal angel at age 73, on January 22, 2024, with the love of her life, Dan, by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary lived a vibrant and active life through it all and will forever be remembered as a deeply devoted and loving Wife, Mother, Mother-in-law, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Aunt, and Friend.
Mary “Mayme” Landis was born on May 19, 1950 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Vernon and Clara Richter. Mary is survived by her beloved husband Dan and their three ever-loving children, Matthew (Heidi), Mark (Stephanie), and Emily (Jeremy); grandchildren Jett and Sunny, elder sister Caryl (Brian), nephew Joseph (Rebecca), and great nieces Anna and Amelia, along with many special friends. Mary is preceded in death by her older brother George and parents.
Mary will be forever loved by her husband Dan, together cherishing nearly 54 years of marriage. Mary went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she fell in love with her chemistry tutor–her Danny. Dan earned his Chemical Engineering Degree and they moved to San Antonio, Texas, where Mary continued her nursing education and Dan his Air Force training. Mary and Dan were married at Kelly Air Force Base on May 1, 1970. They then moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Mary graduated with her Bachelor’s in Nursing and Dan continued his journey in the Air Force to ultimately reach the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After 9 wonderful years of adventures and travel, Mary and Dan began their family, settled in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, and raised their three children.
Mary had phenomenal friends, and always looked forward to spending time with her people, whether it was the neighborhood block parties or the annual pig roast at Smiley and Jo’s farm. Another one of Mary’s favorite things were annual family vacations. From Chichen Itza to the Caribbean to RVing through the American Southwest, she planned many epic family adventures.
Mary will be remembered as an amazing mother to her three children and the best Grammy to her two grandchildren. She called her grandkids “the sweet joys of my life” and was the most proud, doting Grammy. Mary will also be remembered as a dedicated nurse who was devoted to helping her community through working at the Downtown Health Center and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
Mary successfully fought cancer for nearly four years and her family is incredibly grateful to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, Mayo Clinic, and Froedtert Hospital for their expert care.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Life. Mary adored her pets like her family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter, humane society, or a charity near and dear to your heart.
May you Rest in Peace, Mom, Momma, Mommy, Mary, Mayme, Grammy. Your eternal love will forever be in the hearts of Dan, your three children and all your family and friends. We love you and will miss you more than words can ever describe.
