Matthew Russell Nelson 27 years old died unexpectedly at his parent’s home on November 13th, 2023. He is survived by his sister Lindy Suzanne Nelson; his parents Mark and Marlene Nelson and his wonderful Grandmother Peggy McManus. He is further survived by many dear cousins, aunts, uncles and so many caring neighbors and friends.
Matt attended Lake Country School, Delafield WI for his primary education and completed his secondary education at Arrowhead High School in Hartland WI. In December 2022, he graduated from UWM Milwaukee from the College of Business Administration with a Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management. While at UWM Matt joined the Water Ski Club, and he remembered the friends he made with the team attending tournaments around the country with much happiness.
Since graduation, Matt worked at Briggs and Stratton as an intern, at Watertronics in Hartland, and most recently at Pillar Induction in Brookfield as a Supply Chain Buyer. He was mentored at both Watertronics and Pillar Induction by friend and supervisor Ira Potack, to whom we are most grateful.
Nearly from birth, Matt was introduced to lake life! Being on a boat, with friends or family was his true love. He learned to slalom ski at age 7 and progressed from water skiing, to wakeboarding, and wake surfing. He spent many summer days and evenings enjoying beautiful Nagawicka Lake as well as summer vacation weeks in Minocqua, WI with family and friends. We are sure we will never know the shenanigans that went on out in the boat as Matt grew older.
Matt was active in the Boy Scouts and had several friends in his scout troop. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2014. His service project was to install a new sandbox and build a container for all the sand toys at his childhood Alma Mater - All God’s Children Preschool.
Matt loved snowboarding and worked as an instructor at the Alpine Valley Ski Area here in Wisconsin for a few seasons. He also was looking forward to his next big ski trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with friends.
When Matt was about 6-years old, he traveled with his dad, sister, and Grandpa to Daytona, Florida for the NASCAR summer race. This annual bonding tradition continued all the way to the present day. Sometimes Matt’s friends went along to share in the enjoyment and excitement. He loved to people watch, eat southern BBQ and grits, and view a different lifestyle. Most important was time with Dad to do “Guy Stuff”. (NASCAR and Mom just do not mix too well.)
Matt loved time throughout his life with family and friends. He had a big heart and would do anything to make people feel good and comfortable. His smile could light up the room. He enjoyed being called Matthew, Matt, Matty, and Matty Boy!
We will be celebrating Matt’s life with a Visitation and Memorial Service followed by a meal and fellowship at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Delafield, WI on November 28th, 2023. Visitation will start at 4 PM, followed by a memorial service at 5 PM. There will be a light dinner for some fellowship and bonding time from 6 PM - 7PM.
If you have any good photos or video clips of Matt, please post them in his obituary .
