Michael O. Lauerman Sr. was the son Ellen L. (nee Morgan) Lauerman and Otto F. Lauerman, born January 27, 1942. Michael went to St. Anthony of Padua grade school, Marquette High School and two years at Marquette University. He was an outstanding student throughout his years of schooling. In September of 1962, at the age of 20, Michael was on his way to work when he was hit by a dump truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the hospital. Upon arrival, one of the interns heard a faint heart beat and began life saving procedures. Michael suffered severe head injuries. He was unconscious for two months. Gradually he came out of the coma and had many years of therapy. He was very determined to become as normal as he could possibly be. The biggest influence on his road to recovery was the support of his high school and college friends. In 51 years, they never abandoned him because of his brain damage. He was always one of the guys. In 1968 Michael married Pat (nee McCool) Lauerman and they had four children and one adopted daughter. He was a very devoted and loving father and grandfather of Michelle, Augustina (Christopher) Parr, Hillary, Morgan and Emma. He was preceded in death by his sons Michael Otto Jr., Gregory and granddaughter Elaine DeBoo. Michael’s favorite pastimes were TV sports, baseball and football. Cribbage, Sheepshead, Scrabble and Miniature Golf were his favorite games. He worked three jobs at a time and became a master printer. For 10 years he did volunteer work at The Lutheran Home. In July of 2013 he entered The Lutheran Home as a patient and was praised and respected by all the people that remembered him. He entered eternal life while at The Lutheran Home’s VITAS Hospice. He will be missed by his family: (brother) Reverend James Lauerman, (sister) Lois (Mark) Vandenberg, daughters, granddaughters, loving companion Mary Markwiese, beloved nieces and other special relatives and dear friends. A memorial service for Michael will be held at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Oconomowoc on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 10:45 A.M., celebrated by Reverend James Lauerman. A gathering for family and friends will take place at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to VITAS Hospice at The Lutheran Home or Zilber Family Hospice.
