Nicholas Ventura Clar, 36, passed away in Brooklyn New York (3/16/2020). Nick was born in Watertown, Wisconsin (9/25/1983) to Alberto and Rosemary Clar from the Philippines. In Watertown he attended St. Henry’s School and graduated from Watertown High School in 2001. He was active in sports, soccer and basketball, and received his black belt in Karate after 8 years. For college, Nick went to Chicago to study Psychology at Loyola University. He enjoyed his time in Chicago as a young adult with newfound freedom, hanging out with friends while doing his studies. Nick also was very compassionate and generous, during Hurricane Katrina he offered to host a family at his apartment that was displaced from the flooding. After several years in Chicago, Nick moved to New York where he received his Masters degree in Publishing from Pace University. The bigger city provided more places to explore, dates to have, and bars to drink at. He was a happy person who loved life and made times enjoyable for those around him. While in New York he trained for long distance running and completed many events, including the New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles Marathons. When he wasn’t working out, Nick liked to relax with friends and family and watch sports: baseball, basketball, and boxing (Manny Pacquiao, of course!). Nick made it a point to go hiking with his father and siblings on family trips, or friends in New York when they could manage to find time from their busy schedules. Whether in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Utah, Portland, or upstate New York, Nick would venture out of the cities to explore the scenic spots of nature. Nick was a joy to be around, putting others before himself and sacrificing what he could to make them happy. Kids loved his energy and sense of humour, often splitting his time socializing with the adults and running around with the kids. He was a beloved Uncle to his nieces, Miu Clar and Maya Poquette, and his nephew Evan Poquette. He is survived by three siblings Alex Clar (married to Elsa Hui, Detroit), Annabel Clar Poquette (married to Dave Poquette with Maya and Evan Poquette, Chicago), and James Clar (married to Kanae Clar with Miu Clar, Tokyo). His funeral will be held on Friday March 27, 2020. Due to the current coronavirus outbreak, only immediate family will attend, however we will have a remembrance in honor of Nick scheduled for a future date. We hope you will join us then.
