Paul F. Schmitter, 78, of the Village of Summit, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from complications of ALS. Paul is survived by his loving wife Magda Dimmendaal, sons Fred (Dawn) Schmitter, Paul (Ann) Schmitter, Dave Schmitter, step-daughter Paula (Richie) Heinowski and step-son Mike Koch. Opa to Lizzy, Luke, Maddie, Abigail, Erick, Justin, Kyle, Heather, Gabrielle and Great Opa to Rebecca and Easton. Also survived by sister-in-law Jackie Schmitter, brother-in-law John (Sheila) Grafenauer, brother-in-law Wim (Margreet) Dimmendaal and many relatives and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Elvira Schmitter, brother Robert Schmitter and his first wife Gail Schmitter (nee Grafenauer). Paul graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture in 1958 from the University of Illinois. He was president of P.F. Schmitter Architects Inc. where he designed the Ronald McDonald House in Wauwatosa, Brookfield City Hall and Post Office, Wauwatosa Fire & Police Station and the Nashotah and Dousman Village Halls among many other facilities. Paul served on the Summit Town Board as a plan commissioner and town supervisor. He was an instrumental part in the Town of Summit becoming a Village. He was an avid outdoorsman, sports fanatic, gardener, and artist. Paul was a member of the Lake Country Rotary Club in Hartland. His true passion was spending time with his family and friends. A celebration of Paul's life will be on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a memorial service at 5:00 P.M., officiated by the Reverend Dr. Patrick Shelley, all to be held at the family residence, 39450 Delafield Road in the Village of Summit. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the ALS Association for research or the Lake Country Foundation. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Paul Barkhaus and his team at Froedtert Hospital as well as Dr. William Cooper and the staff at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital.
