Richard Johnstone

Richard Johnstone passed away peacefully on 9th October at the age of 86 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Richard was born in the south of England, but embarked on a new life in Wisconsin with his wife Elizabeth and eldest daughter Lynne, braving an arduous journey by boat across the Atlantic ocean during the winter of 1956. Richard settled in Brookfield for many years, working as an engineer with Kerney & Trecker in West Allis as a software developer and robotics engineer for the design and manufacture of machine tools. After many years of international travel, and several years working in New York, he retired with his wife to Phoenix. On Elizabeth’s death in 2015, Richard moved to Shorehaven to be close to his daughter Carol Jefferies, a long-term resident of Oconomowoc. Sadly Carol passed away in 2018 and Lynne has continued to support Richard during his remaining years at Shorehaven. Richard is survived by his two daughters, Lynne Mayne and Sharon Johnstone and his grandchildren, Tim, Joshua, and Ben Jefferies (US) and Anna, Alex and Wendy Mayne (UK) and eight wonderful great grand children. The family would like to thank our very dear friends Betsy Anderson and family, Kathy Ginn and Doris and Glen Mertens, whose care and devotion has ensured Richard’s last years were rich and fulfilling despite his declining health. We would also like to thank all Shorehaven staff and especially those directly involved in Dad’s care in the Towers, and later in LaBelle, for their warmth, care and compassion in looking after Richard. A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Monday, October 21 at 6:30pm at Shorehaven Health and Rehabilitation Center (1305 W. Wisconsin Ave, Oconomowoc, WI 53066). In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard's name can be made out to the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Foundation.
