Richard McNutt, 65, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on April 22nd, 2021. Richard was born in Oconto Falls, WI in 1955 to Gilbert and Margie McNutt. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert. He was the oldest of seven siblings, Margie, Marsha, Dale, Guy, Scott, and Mical. He is survived by his daughter, Chaundra Higginson (Garratt Higginson), and his son, Colton McNutt; along with his grandsons, Hunter and Weston Higginson. Richard grew to be a skilled mason under the tutelage of his father in the family’s construction business. He met and married his high school sweetheart and moved to Colorado in 1978. His early lifework involved owning and operating his masonry business and he worked for several years at the aerospace company, Martin-Marietta, in ground transportation for space flight hardware. He was dedicated to God and Christian principles. His value of service to others was exhibited in how he offered his home to foster children and volunteered to coach archery to youth. Richard’s great passion was the outdoors and engaging with nature. As an enthusiastic and skilled outdoorsman, he cherished every opportunity to camp, hunt, and fish with his family and friends. For eight years, he served as president of the bowhunting club, Red Rock Bowmen. He was an accomplished bow-hunter with several Pope and Young listings to his credit. Richard eventually merged his fondness for the outdoors with professional endeavors. He guided elk hunters in New Mexico and Colorado. He wrote and self-published, Hunter’s Choices: Choices Smart Hunters Make to Improve Their Big Game Hunting Success, which reflected both his love of hunting and cultivating success for others. His recent venture was the formation of RMc Publishing, a production company for his cooking show, Wild Things Show: Cooking Wild Game with Richard McNutt. He directed and produced a video series that included over 70 recipes that are available on DVD and streaming services. Richard cherished spending time with his family and friends. He spent his later years traveling the country in his camper to visit those closest him. He was happiest around a table with loved ones telling stories, debating issues, or playing board games and simply laughing together. He was a man who valued God, relationships, hard work, dedication, and freedom. His life exhibited a notable and diverse combination of interests, talents, and accomplishments. He will be greatly missed. The service will be held at The Waukesha Church of Christ on June 12th, 2021 at 2816 Madison St. Waukesha, WI 53188 from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
