Robert Dorn

Our beloved Bob passed away on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017. His deep faith in God, positive, confident outlook, thoughtfulness, patience, kindness, and great sense of humor made him a unique man. Courage, quiet dignity, a valiant spirit, and strength from his faith in God helped him battle against tremendous odds. His spirit is now free. Robert Eugene Dorn was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Watertown on December 31, 1946 to Eugene and Margaret Dorn. On December 28th, 1968 during the worst blizzard in three decades, he married his high school sweetheart Shirley Thorman. Bob and Shirley raised three thoughtful and caring men—Brady (Stephanie), Rob (Charidee), and Jeremy (Dawn) who have so blessed their lives. Their grandchildren, Logan, Hannah, Ethan and Avery brought so much joy, laughter and love. He is also survived by his mother, sister Vicki(Tom) Wilke, special sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. His father preceded him in death. Football, baseball and basketball were Bob’s passions. He was an outstanding athlete in all three sports from his early years in Lake Mills, through his college years at River Falls and Whitewater and beyond. He carried his love of athletics and his caring nature into his professional life as a teacher and coach for 30 years. Bob fulfilled two of his goals in retirement –becoming a Florida Snowbird and becoming a Disney cast member. Bob enjoyed experiencing unique travel adventures with Shirley, riding his Harley (with his “sidekick” Shirley), and trying to catch “that one big fish.” Most important to Bob was his love for his family. He was more than a husband and dad—he was a best friend. His spirit will live on in so many ways and in so many memories. Bob Dorn—deeply loved. A memorial service will be held at White Stone Community Church (2517 N. Dousman Rd., Oconomowoc) on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 3 pm. Family and friends may call upon the family starting at 1 pm.
