Robert Wayne Heideman, September 22, 1925 - November 26, 2015 Robert (Bob) grew up in Minneapolis, MN and Des Moines, IA. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age 17, on February 19, 1943. He was called back in the Korean war when he received a commission. He trained on naval guns as a sight setter, worked on Navy ships in the South Pacific for submarine defense, and was in defense forces on Midway. Bob attended Dowling High School and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, and in 1950 he married Lorraine Koenigs. They raised seven children, born between 1951 and 1962. Bob served as executive officer of the Marine reserves in Des Moines, and later moved to Milwaukee, where he was staff unit commanding officer. He retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Marine reserves in 1969 after 26 years service. In civilian life Robert worked as an insurance underwriter, in real estate sales, and was appointed Veteran’s Service Officer for Dodge County Wisconsin. During retirement years he enjoyed travel and wintering in Texas. Robert was a voracious reader and was extraordinary in his knowledge retention. At family gatherings he loved to impart historic facts and analysis, often drawing parallels between historic conflicts and current events . Bob Heideman is survived by children Kathy (Jim), David (Sue), Tom (Martha), Jim (Sonya), Rhonda (Jon), Renee (Cam), grandchildren Eric, Craig, Kristin, Wade, Amber, Rachel, Alyson, and Robert, and great grandchildren Jeremy, Riley Ann and Charlotte. Bob is predeceased by wife, Lorraine and daughter, Annette. Services for Bob will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 12:00 PM with a visitation for family and friends to start at 10:00 AM all to take place at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Mapleton, WI with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested in Bob's name to Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek.
