Robert (Bob) Tweeden, 81, lifelong resident of Oconomowoc, passed away quietly in his home on Saturday, March 1st. Born in Watertown, Bob grew up in Okauchee and ultimately became a resident of Oconomowoc. He was a graduate of Oconomowoc High School, Class of 1962, and earned his Associate of Arts degree in Electrical Engineering at Waukesha County Technical College.
His long professional career in the sand, gravel and decorative stone industry began with Butler Equipment, and progressed with North Lake Sand and Gravel, a Halquist Stone facility, where he served as General Manager for 30 years. He was a well-known fixture in the town of North Lake, where he could be found evangelizing the annual Duck Race benefit each year, or plowing snow for the Fire Department after a heavy storm. He was a thoughtful steward of the land in North Lake, and cared deeply for the community in which he worked.
An avid sportsman, Bob deeply loved being outdoors with nature, whether hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, sailing or canoeing with family and friends. For many years, Bob could often be seen walking around Fowler Lake, filling a bag with discarded litter along the way while greeting passersby with a genuine wave and smile. His joyful personality was also marked by boundless curiosity, playfulness, and a strong sense of purpose. He was a true force of nature, and lived a life consistent with his values of decency, faith, honesty, devotion and a tireless work ethic. Bob was a kind, generous, loving and devoted father, friend and neighbor who never hesitated to lend a helping hand with nothing expected in return. However, he would never turn down a good piece of chocolate.
A man of deep faith and lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church congregation in Okauchee, Bob was devoted to living a life of spiritual meaning according to the teachings of Jesus Christ our Lord. Whenever asked how he was doing, his response would usually be: “Good, by the grace of God!” He was also a dedicated member of his community, where he served a term as Supervisor for the Town of Oconomowoc. His legacy will always be felt, and never forgotten.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Cheryl Tweeden, son Brian Tweeden, daughter-in-law Jodi Tweeden, daughter Kelly Tweeden, son-in-law Michael Shea, brother William Tweeden, sister-in-law Jan Tweeden, sisters Susan Tweeden and Marnie Glancey, grandsons Jared Tweeden, Nathan Tweeden and Porter Shea. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret Tweeden, father Franklin Tweeden, and brother Melvin Tweeden.
